so it’s 1 am and i’m thinking about paranatural
more specifically this panel:
and even more specifically the conveniently pre-highlighted text! thanks, agent day!
i got to thinking about what this might mean while attempting to deal with the fact that it’s hard to think up intricate aus when we don’t actually know that much about the greater picture. so i decided to think okay, we don’t know very much, i should just take what we do know and make assumptions and extrapolate so i can make up an idea of what the greater plot might be
and then i got distracted thinking about monsters. what does that mean? are they properly a type of specter like ghosts and spirits, distinct from them somehow, or are they functionally spirits, only distinct because they used to be human?
they’re corrupted humans, day says that much right there, but what sort of corruption are we talking about? corruption from an external source, like gem corruption in steven universe? (haha i don’t even go here)
or, alternatively, i think they’re mediums who stayed possessed for way longer than necessary for their spirit to recover, and somehow that lead to them becoming their spirit, or somehow fusing with them. something along those lines point is they’re now basically spirits.
i mean, we know mediums pick up traits from their spirits as the spirit recovers, and zack has said keeping the spirit there after the spirit’s already recovered can result in looking really, really not very human i.e. manlizard so who’s to say if they stay possessed for way, way longer
also, unrelated to the monster/medium theory, boss leader mentions the cousinhood thinks a specimen of their dwindling prey (aka monsters (aka corrupted humans(aka maybe thoroughly overcooked mediums))) is hiding in mayview. i think the doorman is the guy they’re looking for, thus why he’s in hiding. because the more people know he exists the more chance there is of that knowledge getting over to the cousinhood who would then know for a fact that he’s there and they’d try extra hard to get at him or something.
aaand i don’t know what to do with this information! in summation, i think ‘monsters’ are overcooked mediums turned spirits, and also the doorman is one. i have no idea if either of these things are canon, but hey! theories! it’s the only thing between me and snapping over how long it takes to get anywhere!
